New York Yankees Pause Social Media to Make Anti Gun Statement

In the wake of the tragic events that have occurred in Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas over the last couple of weeks, the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays shut down social media coverage of their game last night to raise awareness of gun violence.

After 31 people were gunned down in mass shootings over the last two weeks, many high-profile celebrities and athletes have spoken up against gun violence.  The Buffalo Bills organization sent over 100 players and staff to the site of the memorial on Jefferson Avenue to pay their respects, and volunteer by handing out food to the community.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr took the opportunity to use his press conference to speak his mind on the events happening across the country.

And last night, during the game between the Yankees and the Rays in Tampa, Florida, the two teams shut down all coverage of the game on social media.  If you were to go to Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or any of the teams' other social media platforms, you would not have been able to see what the score of the game was.

There was no play-by-play.

There were no replays of home runs.

There was no coverage of the game at all.

Instead, the two teams collaborated with each other and decided to use their social media platforms to raise awareness of gun violence in America.

The two teams used the approximately three hours on Thursday evening to post facts about gun violence in the US.

The teams also used the opportunity to talk about mental health in our country.
