The District Attorney's office alleges that she gave birth to the baby, a 38-week old male, at her home on Eggert Road. After giving birth, prosecutors believe that she beat the newborn, hitting him at least twice. She caused a fracture to the baby's skull, which is what caused his death,
The Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the infant died from blunt force trauma focally penetrating trauma of the head.
She suffered some type of medical emergency the following morning. Her boyfriend, who found her, called emergency services. The baby's body was found discarded in a garbage can in the basement.
Wright was arraigned by Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan yesterday, Tuesday, September 7, 2021. She was indicted on two counts of Murder in the Second Degree. The District Attorney had asked for no bail, but the judge granted her bail in the amount of $75,000. Wright is facing a maximum of 25 years to life in prison if she is convicted of the charges against her.
This is so sad. I wonder what would cause a mother to carry a baby to term, give birth and then beat the baby to death? Although I don't have any additional background on the mother, I do wonder if she is suffering from some type of mental illness. That's definitely not an excuse for committing a savage murder, but I can't think of any other logical reason she would do that.
