It's hard to believe the Buffalo Sabres haven't played a game since March 9th, but that's the case with the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was a little unclear when the next season would begin, but now we know.

According to WIVB, the NHL and NHLPA (Players Association) announced on Tuesday that the 2020-2021 season would begin on January 1st.

Normally, the NHL season kicks off in early October, but it had to be pushed back since the Stanley Cup Final ended last week.

It's been a tough past eight years for Sabres fans but a 10-month layoff is pretty brutal.

In other Sabres news, the first round of the NHL Draft happened on Tuesday night and Buffalo drafted forward Jack Quinn, a goal-scorer from the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League.

Quinn has been called the best goal-scorer in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, so hopefully he will help the Sabres offense outside of captain Jack Eichel.

It remains to be seen if Quinn will make the Sabres in training camp or be sent back to his junior team for the 2020-2021 regular season.
