It's been a long time since we've seen the Sabres take the ice in a regular season game -- roughly six months to be exact.

Tonight, the Sabres season kicks off in Pittsburgh to play the Penguins.

There have been plenty of changes to the Sabres roster and coaching staff in the off-season. New head coach Ralph Krueger takes over a Sabres squad that hasn't made the playoffs in over eight years.

New player acquisitions include forwards Jimmy Vesey, Curtis Lazar and Marcus Johansson; and defenseman Colin Miller and John Gilmour.

I'm most excited to see how Johansson and Vesey fit in to the offense.

If you remember, Vesey's professional rights were traded to the Sabres a few years ago from the Nashville Predators, but he instead decided to sign in free agency with the New York Rangers.

Johansson used to be a +20 goal scorer with the Washington Capitals but didn't have as much success with the New Jersey Devils. He did play a role in last year's playoffs, helping the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup Final.

It's been a tough go for Sabres fans lately but hey, you never know!

Face-off tonight is at 7 p.m. The home-opener is this Saturday night against the Devils.
